Countdown to Halloween: Horror Hangers

(All photos featured in this article, minus the "Body Bag" art, is owned by Trevor Henderson)

I've been a huge fan of Trevor Henderson ever since I first became aware of his art through the Kickstarter funded art zine "Puffed Shoggoths". This was a collection of H.P. Lovecraft pieces by various artists edited by Henderson and showed his passion for the material. He's also created many loving tributes to other horror characters and films.

All this has lead to what seems like Henderson's' most ambitious project to date: "Horror Hangers".

"Campfire Creep" and "Fiendish Fly" hanging out.
Designed as a loving homage to the hinged Halloween decorations of yore, these papercrafts take the monsters and misfits from various cult horror films and transforms them through Trevor's distinct style. It seems like Trevor has chosen a collection of his favorite characters for the first two waves but the concept proves ripe enough for hundreds of creations until everyone's personal favorite creature is captured (or until Trevor grows tired of it all). Those so far conceptualized include:

"Possessed Preteen" from 'The Exorcist'
"TBA" from 'Alien'
"Murderous Mask" from 'Halloween' (1978)
"TBA" from 'Tombs of the Blind Dead'
"Campfire Creep" from 'The Burning'
"Fiendish Fly" from 'The Fly' (1986)
"Threatening Thing" from 'The Thing' (1982)
"TBA" from 'Return of the Living Dead"
"TBA" from 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'
"TBA" from 'Friday the 13th IV' (or 'Friday the 13th III')
It is so simple yet so genius. I remember vividly these type of hinged decorations when I was growing up. The ones my mother would buy featured skeletons or vampires or Frankenstein's monster in all their 80's glory and cover our house with them (yes, my mother was/is awesome). These seem to call back to those simpler times but making it oh so more ghoulish. Trevor has even gone so far to re-create the retro packaging many of these decorations had.

So far the first series has appeared on Henderson's Etsy including "Murderous Mask", "Possessed Preteen",  "Threatening Thing", "Fiendish Fly", and "Campfire Creep". Each ranges from $25 to $31 (not including shipping from Canada. Be sure to factor that in).

Series one heading to Mondocon.
Series two is planned to go live sometime around the first week of October. Of this release I will most certainly purchase the Tarman hanger.

Series two (coming soon).
I wish I could go into the structure of the hangers or review how they look in person but I probably won't receive my hanger, "Murderous Mask", for another nine days. I look forward to when he arrives and plan to hang him proudly. Halloween, as you know, is coming.

till then...hang around,
