Happy Halloween!

Tubarão

Hello again. Long time, no see.

This is the last day of Halloween, and I had promised to contribute to JAWS-o-ween with... a comic! And on the last day... I delivered. I present you... The story I just decided to call Tubarão. Hope you enjoy it!

PS: I couldn't find a way to display the pages here full size without breaking the website layout. We'll look for a solution, but in the meantime, I hope you can read these reduced versions.

Fright Film Friday: Trick or Treat (1986)

We saved the best for last. What better film to watch on Devil's Night then the VHS mainstay Trick or Treat (1986).

8-Bit Zombie Presents Horrorible Heads.

What, another product review? Have I sold out? Well, when did I ever sell in? I'm a sucker for all manner of Halloween related goodies and if that means singing the praises of every company that puts out awesome designs then so be it. Call me a sell out. 8-Bit Zombie is an hell of an outlet and it's creator, Ross Dewey, is a hell of a guy. His most recent Halloween line was full of awesome designs and while I would love to go through each of  them there is one particular item that I would like to focus on: Horrible Heads.

The Electric Zombie Halloween Special

Just in time for Halloween comes the Electric Zombie Fall release.  I know that I've talked about Electric Zombie in the past quite a bit, tending to shower heaps of praise to its designs and designer, but the brand just really knows what it is doing. Recently the EZ head, Kyle Crawford, made the decision to sharpen his vision and focus the fashion and art company as an outlet for  80's/90's nostalgia which this Fall release line really shows. Ranging from influences like Are You Afraid of the Dark? to Franken Berry, this release is Halloween encapsulated.

Here come the Cuddle Creeps

Ever wish you could climp into bed with Regan MacNeil?

No no, there might be too many already in there.
How about a desire to re-create Evil Ed's game of big bad wolf with Peter Vincent?

My grandma, what big teeth you have.
If the answer to all the above is yes then you're in luck with the most recent collaboration between Horror Decor and Strange Kids Club with Cuddle Creeps.

Watch This Now! Presents Shout Factory TV VHS Vault

Shout Factory has quickly become the best North American genre label in a long time with the systematic release of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes and the amazing subsidiary horror label Scream Factory. Founded by former Rhino Records partners, which makes sense of the MST3K connection, Shout Factory strives to release "retro pop culture" titles. Scream Factory is of particular note with their hefty special features and reversible covers mimicking the releases of UK outlet Arrow Video. What you may not know is that Shout Factory also has a strong online presence. Shout Factory TV is a (mostly) free online streaming service where you can watch many of their titles, including Scream Factory. Now while this streaming service of itself is something to watch I want to mention a very recent development by Shout Factory called Shout Factory TV VHS Vault.

JAWS Rip-Off Trailer Tuesday: Tintorera...Tiger Shark aka Killer Shark (1977)

Now there is vengeance. There is man versus the sea's deadly high executioner. A monstrous killer is churning up the sea.  I am rolling my eyes. This is Tintorera...Tiger Shark (2977).

On which we panic beacuse Halloween is one week away...

Evey Halloween blogger knows one true fear. It keeps them up at night. It makes their palms sweat and nauseous to their stomach. It could even cause them to abandoned writing anything all together. This fear is simple...

"I ran out of time."

Gremlins Playing Cards from Albino Dragons

Albino Dragon funded the deck through Kickstarter, bringing them to my attention. You’d be hard pressed to find new Gremlins merchandise outside of the occasional figure, so I backed this immediately.

Busch Gardens Howl-O-Scream 2015: Unearthed -- Review

Good evening, CultSig Members. It's been a long while since I've made an appearance here, but I'm back. And ready to rumble.

I was never familiar with the other Halloween events around Florida. But this past Friday night, I was able to attend Busch Gardens' Howl-O-Scream with a friend (Michael, as I prefer to call him). If you've ever been curious about attending Howl-O-Scream, here's a run-down of the 2015 event with a breakdown of houses, scare zones, and the annual mainstage show, Fiends.

Fright Film Friday: Hell Night (1981)

We dig deep in the budget bin and pull out another cult classic on VHS. This one starring Linda Blair. No, not Savage Streets (dammit, why didn't we do Savage Streets?), it's Hell Night (1981)

JAWS Rip-Off Trailer Tuesday: Mako The Jaws of Death (1976)

Today's film is almost too amazing to be considered "bad"...but it's pretty bad. Where last week we dealt with Universal taking a film to court for being too similar story wise this film ups the gamble by actually having the word "Jaws" in the title. Today we read the mind of Mako: The Jaws of Death (1976).

Well Listen to This!: Werewolf Ambulance Podcast

I know that I yell at you all a lot. WATCH THIS! KICKSTART THAT! TRAILER OTHER! Yeah, I tend towards hyperbole but it's out of love. Love for pop culture. Love for those who love pop culture. Most of all, love for the new. In that regards I yell at you again to LISTEN TO THIS!

JAWS Rip-Off Trailer Tuesday: Great White aka The Last Shark (1981)

Today's feast for the eyes is not the first in the rip-off parade (or even the best) but the one that Universal felt so threatended by that they sued. Today we watch GREAT WHITE aka THE LAST SHARK (1981).

The Art of Amity: "Quint's Revenge!" by Paul Jackson

For the first installment of The Art of Amity I wanted to feature one of my favorite pieces of JAWS art in a very long time from artist Paul Jackson.

Paul is a talented UK artist who has been getting quite amount of attention for the past couple of years. I would tend to describe his art as a kind of Memento Mori depiction of life and death, but he also seems to have a sense of humor and a love of of popular culture. How else could you explain Quint's Revenge!?

Fright Film Friday: Neon Maniacs (1986)

Greetings creeps and...creepettes? Whatever, welcome to October and welcome to Free Film Friday. For those who have never joined us for FFF this is the (sporadic) weekly feature where we watch a hidden gem from a unnamed streaming source and enjoying the fruits of copyright infringement.

For October we decided to showcase some spooky films that were stables on VHS and had various degrees of watch-ability. Together with Countdown to Halloween, this is...

On which we rise from the grave... (Halloween 2015)

Well, Summer is over...

Damn right. This Summer has been the horrible. Being localized in Florida, the playground of America (or its blight, dependeing on your perspective) has left me utterly drained. Don't get me wrong, I usually love a Summer. Beach days, outdoor barbecues, and trips to theme parks are all noble ambitions that I love and respect. The thing is, when living in the Sunshine State, you tend to hate the Summer because of this very reason. EVERYONE comes to Florida for the Summer. Not to get into a "Local Only" diatribe but when your leisure day at Universal becomes like the fall of Saigon with Brazilian tourist groups in 90 degree heat you begin to become sour on Summer. Become the tourist destination of the world largely makes the state inhospitable for those who live here the three months of the year.

I also had a major health scare this Summer. I'm sure it's been noticed (or not noticed at all *weep*) that I have largely been absent in my updating. Besides working full-time at a non-creative job I began having heart issues late in the Summer month. This largely put out my fire to work on the blog on any regular basis. I became a passive participant in pop culture, taking it all in without giving anything back. But I had hope. I had a plan. I had...
